glenburtnik.com :: View topic – Call me in the morning

I know you get this all the time but…
Are there any plans to re-release Heroes & Zeroes. It has always been a fave of mine, and the only way I can listen to it is on cassette. CASSETTE, GLEN…CASSETTE!!! I mean, come on!!
Hook a brother up. Don’t bother with “remastering” it
and all that jazz. Nobody can really hear the difference anyway.

————

Ah, cassettes. Remember cassettes?

Actually I was amazed to see the latest Springsteen & Faith Hill records available in cassette format at a truck stop last year. (Are US car stereos still coming with cassette players standard?) 신용카드현금화

Personally, I still use cassettes from time to time. They’re quick & disposable.

And THERE lies YOUR problem, my friend. Cassettes are absolutely disposable. They sound worse and worse the more they’re played (especially if you have an old cassette player that never gets demagnitized, which is like EVERY CASSETTE PLAYER ON EARTH).

Again, there is a rumour that someday, down the road, there will be a GB box-set or compilation or re-release of my early discs. Don’t start holding your breath just yet.

I suggest you take two tracks off “Welcome To Hollywood” (say “Bam!” and “Another” for example) and call me in the morning.

Dear Glen,

The new CD is wonderful! Thanks for sharing your time talents and treasures with us. I was playing it the other evening and my 21 year old son came over to raid the frig. He heard “The Muse” and says it rocks! I also played it for one of my patients, a 31 year old Korean girl. And of course she liked it too!

PEACE JOY LOVE LIGHTS AND BLESSINGS! 신용카드현금화

But you can call me Peggy.

Peggy,

Cool to hear. I am MULTI-GENERATIONAL! With your help I am crossing barriers of AGE and CULTURE!

Next stop: WORLD DOMINATION!!! (insert demonic laughter sound byte).

Seriously, thanks for the good word, and thanks for seeking out my music.

The song was Goodbye. We sang “Don’t say you love me. Don’t say you need me”

Got a lot on my mind I want to tell you
I don’t know where to start
You’re gettin’ way outta line I want to tell you
You’re actin’ too damn smart
This little game you’re playin’
Has lost its fun somehow
You had me goin’ but I figured it out
An’ I’m not playin’, I’m not playin’ now
CHORUS:
Say goodbye, I’ll be leavin’ in the mornin’
Nothin’ you can do to make me stay
Say goodbye, I’ll be leavin’ in the mornin’
Say goodbye, it’s the only thing to say
Then I’ll be on my way
Little girl, dressed to kill
I see through your disguise
You wanna be big time but you never will
Cuz I see through all your lies
You say you’re somethin’ special
Well you talk a real good game
But now the party’s over
An’ you just don’t sound
You just don’t sound the same
CHORUS
Don’t say you love me
Don’t say you need me
CHORUS 신용카드현금화

glenburtnik.com :: View topic – Atlanta Show

Okay I know this show was several moons ago, but it is still on my mind a lot. My Brother, who is a huge Rik Emmett fan, and I made the trip and
I have to tell you we both came away with an appreciation for both of you!
This was my first solo “Glen” show, and the first time to ever see Rik Emmett. My Brother knows now, why I rave about your music all the time. You have a new fan, and I now listen to Rik.. 신용카드현금화

I have a couple of questions. Was this the first time you had shared a show with Rik? Do you think there may be more down the road?

My other question is about your song writing . I know Jo Dee Messina is getting ready to release “Delicious Surprise” and was wondering how she came to choose this song?? Or for that matter how does any of your songs get recorded by other artist? Do you send these songs out or do they approach you? My Brother and I are both curious about this, and hope it doesn’t sound like a dumb question.

We both Love, “Welcome to Hollywood” and hope there is yet another Cd in the works. Thanks for the great show!! 신용카드현금화

Deb

—————–

Deb,

I’m glad you and your brother enjoyed the show. I thought Rik Emmett was excellent that night and I walked away with alot of respect for his guitar playing.

Yes, it was the first time I had done a show with Rik – and the first time I ever met him. Do I think there may be more down the road? Nothing is impossible.

As for your question about song writing, I don’t actually know how Jo Dee Messina found “Delicious Surprise”, but I am certain it was because of Beth Hart’s album. Perhaps Jo Dee, or someone in her camp, is a fan of Beth (who really is a force of nature), but this particular cover was not “pitched” by anyone. It was chosen by the artist. Which is a new one for me.

More often songs of mine have been solicited by “song pluggers” and publishers who have meetings with record companies and producers and artists, suggesting tunes to be recorded. But ewven THAT scenario is kinda rare for me I’m afraid.

In any case songs are usually “sent out” to people. The running, popular belief in the industry is that there is always a need for a good song, so it’s a matter of getting those songs to the right people. 신용카드현금화

Though I have my skepticism about that.

or do they approach you? My Brother and I are both curious about this, and hope it doesn’t sound like a dumb question.

I’m happy to hear you like my latest album, and I’m grateful you turned your brother on to my new music. Thanks for the letter,

Glen

glenburtnik.com :: View topic – Atlanta revisited…..

All I can say is I had a blast…starting with Friday night….it was so fun to just sit around, sing…and chat with friends….old and new!
Paul’s guitar playing and singing with Zan & Micky and all of us at times
(Haven’t we been here before!)….watching the DVD…Angel making the necklaces…everyone just having a great time. I couldn’t begin to mention everyone’s names so I don’t dare try but I can say it was a GREAT night I will not forget. Thanks everyone!

Then to add the “intimate” evening with Glen and Rik. It was different and alot more laid back than I am used to but nevertheless another fun evening. You know to see Glen and Beau on stage together…to me …was a neat thing….to hear them sing together. June 26th song…. 신용카드현금화
Watching the World go By gets me all the time but again to see it live….Liars Club….Exit Number 9…. “I will Follow” or is it Follow you and then for Glen to end it with an acapello All that’s yet to come.

Now it’s back to the “real world” but atleast now in my real world I have a Welcome to Hollywood CD to listen to!!!

**I guess this is the BB to post on if the other is down!**

I probably should have posted this here first, since most everyone in Atlanta frequents this board, but I put it on styxboard and the aol bb. I’m copying it here in case some of you aren’t on those boards. 신용카드현금화

Just a few things I wanted to add to what everyone has said:

These are in random order as I think of them.

Andrea (photogal), THANK YOU for being such a good nurse on Friday. Believe it or not, you calmed me down and made me feel a little better about my situation. At the risk of sounding like I did when I told Angel she looked like my aunt (who is close to my age and very pretty), you remind me a lot of someone else in my family (who, like that band, will remain nameless), and your bedside manner was just what I needed.

Sheri kissing me on the forehead as I drifted off the sleep. Warm fuzzies and everything. 출장마사지

Queenie for just being SO gosh darn SWEET. I could search the world and probably not find very many people who care as much about other people as you. I wish we lived closer.

Jane and Jennifer’s sons, Michael and Blake, who were SO well-behaved. It’s not too hard to have a good six year old but pre-teens are another story. They clearly have good role models, that are COOL AS HELL. That always helps.

Paul for just being the best damn flatterer I have ever known! When Paul gives you an out-of-this-world, helacious, mother-of-all-compliments compliment, it seems SO natural & sincere! I was feeling the love big time. Right back atcha, Paul! And thanks a ZILLION for helping me to the floor Friday night, and getting my purse (or was that Blake?) with my inhaler as I near fainted, threw up, and had an asthma attack at the same time. I was pissed and embarrassed that I hurt myself, but I was so glad that you were there when I did. 출장마사지

I’m also kind of sorry you missed the flash.

Everyone who humored my kid. Especially Chris, who was like Mom #2 ALL WEEKEND – taking her to the car to find her purse, getting her beverages, etc. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Fran, Micky, and Chris for one VERY fun series of events. Except the John Denver dissing session. And the 12 minute nap lecture series.

Jane for reminding me why she hates pretzels. I STILL laugh my @$$ off.

“And that’s why you’re an asshole.” 신용카드현금화

Angel and Q for the birthday gifts. That was really very nice of both of you. Made my night!

Delenn & Mark! I haven’t seen Mark in like 5 years, and I MUST SAY that it has been too long. Delenn – you are cool beyond words. GOD BLESS YA!

Mr. & Mrs. V! I’m so sorry time was so limited and we didn’t get to spend much time with each other, but I am SO GRATEFUL you both made the trip (once again) for this show. It was a privilege to meet you.

Kristen – HOW COOL to finally meet you! You are a delight and adorable to boot. Thanks for the “pillow action” Friday night too!

Stan – ~ 신용카드현금화

Fiona – for the best southern hospitality this side of the Mason/Dixon line! I love your dog! And I love you! Thank you thank you.

Micky – thanks for making me believe I have boobs of any size worth mentioning. It was a good moment in life.

Lisa & Lisa – I feel bad that I didn’t make more of an effort to be talk with you. I’m blaming the foot shenanigans on that. I promise I will do better next time.

Styxo – Nice to finally put a face to the name I’ve been seeing forEVER! I love that you’re so young and love the “old” stuff. You’re a doll.

Lisa B. – great seeing you again. Your daughter is lovely.

and hubby – It’s an encounter I’ll not soon forget.

Maybe with some hypnosis…

Karin – Not enough Karin time!

Karen – Not enough nobody time!

Kathy W. – I miss seeing you. I wish we lived closer (maybe I need to move to Jersey. ha! As if my thin blooded Florida ass would live in Jersey). You look great! Thanks for everything.

glenburtnik.com :: View topic – asking for a bit of help … it’s long but please read.

This may or may not be breaking some rules, if it is I apologize . I mean no harm but sometimes you just gotta do what you just gotta do. 신용카드현금화

The first thing I should say is thank you for reading this. The next thing I should say is that if this offends you in any way , I apologize . That having been said , if you are receiving this letter it means I know you , think I know you , wish I knew you or don’t really know you at all. Pretty much, if I know you exist and I have your e-mail address , I am sending this to you. 신용카드현금화
If you read on , you will understand. This is reguarding my son , Nicholas . Nicholas will be 11 in April. He’s in 5th grade and will be going into middle school next year. Nicholas struggles with ADHD as well as a slight learning disability. He is unique in a way , being that he is very intelligent and gifted and at the same time , challenged in certain areas. 신용카드현금화 For example, Nick averages between 95 – 105 as a grade on his spelling tests for the last 3 years , but … if he has to write a paragraph he spells at least 50 % of the words wrong. He averages 85 or better on every math , science or social studies test he takes but he is in danger of failing 5th grade because he can’t complete his assignments on time.
Nick is also socially challenged. He is very big for his age. He is 10 years old and is already 5’5″ . He is on average 8-12 inches taller than the other kids in his grade. He is still very innocent and independent . He prides himself on not being like all of the other kids. He has no real interest in popular music. His favorite things to listen to are Bing Crosby , Rosemary Clooney , Elvis, Styx, Glen Burtnik and other people that most of the kids his age have never heard of.
So, now that you know about Nicholas, I’ll finally get to the point of this letter.
In the beginning of the school year , Nick’s principal and special -ed teacher came to me with a concern. That concern being that Nicholas is going to have a really hard time making the transition from Elementary school to Middle school. They said that they were worried that he would , in essence , get lost in the crowd, get eaten alive by the kids and probably fall apart. We all know about the power struggles and popularity contests that go on at this age. Those kids who are different and don’t fit in can take terrible abuse from the rest of the kids. So they said that over the summer they had started looking in to a local private school that they thought would be a great place for Nick. ( imagine how blown away I was knowing that they were spending their summer , free time worrying about my son ) The name of the school is Oakwood Friends School . It is a school that is Quaker based . The class sizes are very small and they have an excellent academic support program for kids like Nick. 신용카드현금화
When I say the class sizes are small , the 2004-2005 6th grade class consists of 8 students. Yes 8 students…. the 6th grade class at the public school will have approximately 300. Quite a difference.
So, we started looking into the school , Nicholas loves it. We filled out the applications and they accepted him based upon his academic abilities. He was so happy when he got the news that he ran around the house screaming with joy.
So, here’s the problem. Because of the intimacy and low student ratio the tuition is very high. With the Academic Support added to the regular tuition ,the bill comes to over $20,000 . They have given us a fairly generous amount of financial aid but with all the savings we can spare and cutting everything that even resembled a frill from our lives , I am more than $7000 short of what we need. To some that might not be a lot but to us it’s very big. And if I don’t find a way to pay for it and sign the contracts by March 31st we will lose his spot in the class and his financial aid. 신용카드현금화
I can’t tell you how awful it feels to know that there is a good chance that I won’t be able to make this work. I know there are many parents who are protective of their children but when a teacher and a principal come to you and tell you that your child is without a doubt , going to get lost if he goes into the public school , it is something that needs to be taken seriously. I haven’t planned since the day Nick was born for him to go to private school. We’ve had 4 months to try to get this together. And unless a miracle happens , I am going to fail.
So… I said some prayers and the only answer I got was that I need to ask for help. So, I have swallowed my pride and that’s what I’m doing. Asking for help …
( this is where this might start to sound like a scam , but on everything that is holy , I swear to you, it is not )
I am not looking for a hero to step up and save us. I am asking for a little bit of help from as many people as possible. Wether it be $20, $50 or $100 . I believe that with a little bit of help from you I might be able to do it.
Before you start to think about it , take a look at the school at Oakwoodfriends.org . It is truly a wonderful , caring environment that embraces our children’s individualism . 신용카드현금화
If you want to help , I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you want to help but can’t afford it, just pass this on to someone who might be able to. Who knows, maybe with your help I can do this for Nicholas.
If you can help , just leave me a private message and we can talk about it. If you can’t help , thank you for your time in reading this and just keep a good thought for us on our quest.
God Bless you all …

glenburtnik.com :: View topic – Anyone going to see Patty Smyth on Friday at the Starland ?

We also took off after the last song, so I don’t know if she went into the crowd. I’d guess she did, though. She and the band looked extremely happy to be back on stage together. 신용카드현금화

BTW, rules for smoking in the club depend upon on the act performing that particular evening. Friday was the fifth show (also Hootie & the Blowfish, Cheap Trick, Doobie Brothers and The Marshall Tucker Band) I’ve seen at Starland. At a couple of those shows, before walking into the venue, a few signs were posted, stating that smoking was not permitted in the PIT area. Smoking was only permitted in the bar areas.

glenburtnik.com :: View topic – Anyone going to see Journey or Styx this summer?

Just saw Ricky with Styx for the first time last month. He’s a good player, and a cutie pie! I have a feeling he’ll “come out of his shell” more and more that he gets used to playing with the band. After all–He’s in the same band with Lawrence! He won’t be able to help going at least a little crazy And I mean that in the best way. 출장마사지

But I agree with Vicky, et. al., when they say it’s just not the same without Glen. I miss him very much. He’ll never be replaced, but I just hope that what he’s doing now, without Styx, makes him happy. If it does, then I guess we’ll forgive him for leaving us

glenburtnik.com :: View topic – another one from Andrea

Hello Glen,
I’m an 18-year-old Styx fan, have all your solo albums, and met you in South Bend, Indiana last year. I just got your new album and I really like the varied song styles. In response to the question you posed about “Roses,” yes it does sound ’80s, but that’s what makes it cool! 신용카드현금화
My mom and I got a real kick out of watching the videos; the one for “BAM!” with the Bob Dylan-esque cue cards was funny. (Has anyone else realized that the cue card thing came from Bob?) I wanted to know if the girl in the “Another” video is Darla? It looked to me like the same girl from the CD Rom pix. The woman in the “Roses” video isn’t Rosie, is it? By the way, Sally did a pretty good job with the “Cry” video too. My fave video was “Kiss Your Ass Goodbye” with you playing all the parts; hilarious!
You did a great job on Welcome to Hollywood. Let’s hope it’s not another eight years before you do your next solo album!

Andrea from Indiana

———-

Hi Again, 신용카드현금화

In response to your questions and comments:

1. The girl in the “Another” video is an actress in Montreal who I recently was informed I mispelled her name on the album credits (and I’m horrified by this error, honest). Her name (I hope) is Jessica and I’ve never met her. Director Meg Furihata chose her for the video.

2. Yes, my Rosie appears in the “Roses” video, and just the other day someone reminded her of this, to which HER reaction was horror.

3. I covered the “BAM!” video in another “Dear Glen” post from you (“18 yr old Andrea from Indiana, early ’04”) 신용카드현금화

So, as you can see, the “Welcome To Hollywood” DVD is apparently the cause of great trauma here in the Burtnik house.

(Kidding, I think)

Glen
